Pre-School: First Steps in Learning (Ages 1–3)
(WALDORF - INSPIRED)

Our Educational Philosophy

At FACT Las Terrenas, we embrace a holistic approach to early childhood education, drawing influence from the Waldorf philosophy. We understand that the first few years of a child's life are crucial for their emotional, cognitive, and social development. Our Pre-School for children aged 1 to 3 focuses on learning through play, artistic expression, and connection to nature. These early years serve as the foundation for future learning, preparing children for the Explorers section (ages 3-6). Our goal is to nurture the whole child, mind, body, and spirit, in a warm, supportive environment where creativity and imagination can flourish.

Curriculum Approach

Inspired by Waldorf principles, our approach is based on a deep respect for the developmental stages of each child. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning that engages the senses and encourages active participation. Key areas of development include:

  • Language & Communication
Encouraging verbal and non-verbal expression through storytelling, songs, rhymes, and simple dialogues. We create an environment where language is experienced as a living part of the world.

  • Motor Skills Development
Fostering both fine and gross motor skills through natural activities like building, weaving, drawing, and movement. Simple, sensory-rich experiences help children develop bodily awareness and coordination.

  • Cognitive Growth & Imagination
Children engage with activities that stimulate their imagination and problem-solving abilities, such as sensory exploration, simple puzzles, and nature-based learning that connects them to the world around them.

  • Social & Emotional Development
Emphasizing empathy, cooperation, and emotional regulation through group play, shared tasks, and community-building activities. Children learn to navigate their emotions in a caring and understanding environment.

Learning Through Play and Creativity

At the heart of our Pre-School is creative play. Following Waldorf principles, we encourage children to express themselves through arts, music, movement, and nature. This creative play is not just fun, it’s an essential part of their growth, helping them develop the imagination, social skills, and motor abilities they’ll need as they move into the Explorers section.

Activities like painting with natural materials, playing with wooden toys, listening to stories, and participating in rhythmic activities foster creativity while also laying the groundwork for cognitive and emotional maturity. We believe that through imagination, children learn to connect with their inner world and the world around them.

Our Educators

Our educators are deeply inspired by the Waldorf ideology, understanding that young children learn best through example, rhythm, and warmth. They are trained in early childhood development, with a focus on creating an environment of security, love, and respect for each child. Through consistent daily routines and purposeful engagement, our educators provide a sense of stability and safety, supporting each child’s unique developmental journey.

A Day in Our Pre-School

A typical day follows a gentle rhythm that promotes a sense of security, allowing children to engage in focused activities while also having time for rest and free exploration. The day includes:

  • Morning Welcome
A peaceful start to the day with songs, stories, and calming activities that help children feel grounded and ready for the day ahead.

  • Structured Creative Activities
Simple, meaningful activities that stimulate imagination and creativity, such as playing with natural materials, drawing, or imaginative storytelling.

  • Free Play
Time for children to explore their world at their own pace, engaging with materials that promote self-expression and social interaction.

  • Snack & Rest Time
Healthy meals and time for quiet reflection, allowing children to recharge physically and emotionally.

  • Outdoor Exploration
Connecting with nature through outdoor play, gardening, or nature walks, helping children form a bond with the natural world around them.

Receive the chidren in reverence, educate them with love, and send them forth in freedom."
